Product Description

Forged steel gate valve model 501 is designed for flow isolation in industrial pipelines, including steam, energy, refinery and chemical process systems.

The compact forged body and solid wedge provide a robust construction for demanding service conditions. Body materials, trim, end connections and bonnet configuration are selected according to the process medium, operating pressure and temperature.

Available configurations

  • Size range: NPS ½–2;
  • Pressure classes: ASME Class 150–1500, depending on the configuration;
  • End connections: flanged, butt-weld (BW) or socket-weld (SW);
  • Bore: full or reduced, depending on the selected version;
  • Operation: handwheel, gearbox or electric actuator;
  • Function: flow isolation.

Availability of a specific combination of size, pressure class, material and end connections depends on the selected configuration.

Design features

  • One-piece forged body;
  • Solid wedge with metal seating surfaces;
  • Bidirectional flow isolation;
  • Selection of stainless steel and hardfaced trim materials;
  • Bonnet configurations adapted to low- or high-temperature service;
  • Series temperature range: −196°C to +593°C, depending on the materials and construction.

The permissible operating pressure and temperature are determined for the complete valve configuration. The full series temperature range does not apply to every material or pressure class.

Process media

Water, steam, condensate, petroleum products and other clean industrial liquids or gases compatible with the selected materials. Suitability for corrosive chemicals and low- or high-temperature service depends on the medium composition, concentration, pressure and temperature. Model 501 is intended for isolation rather than continuous throttling.

Body and wedge materials are selected individually and do not necessarily have the same specification. The complete material combination is defined in the documentation for the ordered valve.

Standards applicable to the selected configuration

  • Design: API 602 and ASME B16.34;
  • Face-to-face dimensions: ASME B16.10, where applicable to the selected configuration;
  • Flanged connections: ASME B16.5;
  • Butt-weld ends: ASME B16.25;
  • Socket-weld ends: ASME B16.11;
  • Inspection and testing: API 598;
  • Fire-safe testing: ISO 10497 / API 6FA, where specified and supported by the relevant qualification.

For EN configurations, applicable requirements may include EN 1984, EN 558 or EN 12982 for installation dimensions, EN 1092-1 for flanges, EN 12627 for butt-weld ends, EN 12760 for socket-weld ends and EN 12266-1 for testing. The applicable standards and dimensions are specified for the ordered execution.

Trim numbers and nominal designations follow API 602:2022, Table 12. Seating surface materials refer to the contacting surfaces of the wedge and body seats or seat rings, rather than the complete components. Co-Cr-A denotes cobalt-chromium hardfacing, such as Stellite 6 or equivalent. Availability, material specifications and the arrangement of seating surfaces are confirmed for the selected valve configuration.

Inspection and sealing performance

Pressure and seat leakage tests are performed according to the specified testing standard. Acceptance criteria depend on the valve configuration and purchase requirements. Any additional leakage-rate requirement is specified in the order documentation.
